Ovamed GmbH was established in 2003 by Detlev Goj and Alexander Beese, first under the name of Biocure GmbH, which was changed into Ovamed GmbH in Summer 2004. The company resides in the village of Barsbüttel, Germany, right next door to the city of Hamburg.
Detlev Goj, also known as the founder of Biomonde GmbH & Co. KG, introduced the maggot therapy for the treatment of chronic wounds in 1998 with Biomonde and established the company to the worldwide biggest producer of this biotherapy in woundcare.
Alexander Beese also runs his own business Karl Beese company in the third Generation, producing traditional and modern wound dressings with more than 115 employees, located right next door to Ovamed and Biomonde.
Detlev Goj and Alexander Beese met with the University of Iowa Research Foundation and scientists at the University of Iowa to acquire the production methods necessary to produce Trichuris suis for clinical use in inflammatory bowel disease and other immune-mediated illness. Ovamed was established later on to bring this research into commercialization.
